PALMA

This Friday there’s an ecological wine tasting event happening in Palma at Casal Solleric, from 8.30pm. Wineries represented include Can Majoral, Es Verger, Galmes i Ribot, Son Sureda Ric, Jaume Puntiro and Torres. The event is a fundraiser organised by GOB (Grup Balear d'Ornitologia I Defensa de la Naturalesa) in aid of the restoration of Sa Trapa, damaged in last year’s huge forest fire.

And a reminder that it’s the TUI Marathon next Sunday morning (19th) in Palma, so expect some traffic restrictions in the city that day.

PUERTO ALCUDIA

EporE – Europeos por España – has organised an interesting talk, in English, for this Wednesday, October 15th. The speaker is Sr. Antonio Deudero, director general of the Regional Government for Mallorca’s ports and airports. Entry is free and the talk starts at 6.30pm at Botel Alcudiamar, in the port of Alcudia.

ANDRATX

The not-for-profit cultural centre Sa Taronja, in Andratx, has a classical chamber music concert this coming Saturday, October 18th, in its theatre. The trio Serenata Berlin will be performing their last concert of the year in Sa Taronja’s chamber music series. Tickets for the concert are 20 euros (students and unemployed people on the ‘paro’ get in free), with discounts for members, groups and pensioners. Reserve your ticket by phoning 971 235 268. CONSELL
Next weekend, the 18th and 19th October, is the 8th Autumn Fair in the village of Consell. At noon on the Saturday there’s a medieval show, with horses and falcons. On Sunday from 10am the autumn fair and wine fair are open in the Plaza Mayor.

INCA

Inca is holding its second artisan beer fair next Sunday, October 19th. Try some of the growing number of Mallorcan craft beers at this one-day fair in Plaza d’Espanya.

If you love golf, here’s a date to put in your diary: Saturday, November 22nd is the date of the annual Open Charity Golf Tournament organized by the Costa de Calvia Lions Club of Mallorca. More details to come soon . . .

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Cancer Support Group has organized a Dine and Dance event later this month. The group supports cancer patients and their families in the Balearics. Dine and Dance is happening in the superb setting of CCA Andratx on Friday, October 24th at 7.30pm. The evening includes drinks reception, 3-course dinner with wine, dancing to live music and a DJ, auction and raffle. Dress code is a touch of pink! Would you like to find out more about the charitable work of the Lions – who have been helping the local community in Calvia for 28 years, and have just started a branch in north Mallorca? Calvia Lions invite you to join them for an informal information session about the club and its work. The new Calvia Lions charity shop in Palma Nova has been a great success and this Saturday they’re having an end of season sale between 10am and 6pm, with reductions on almost all their summer stock. If you love tapas, don’t miss Peccata Minuta this Sunday, October 26th in Inca. Eight top chefs – seven from Mallorca and one from Menorca – are preparing special tapas for this event, taking place in the cloister of Santo Domingo in Inca. There’ll be 7,200 portions of tapas and 1,800 drinks for sale – so there’s plenty for everyone! Each tapa costs 3 euros, wines and artisan beers will be 2,50 euros, and soft drinks and coffee, one euro, and you pay with tickets which will be on sale at the door from 11am. The Peccata Minuta tapas event is on from 12 noon until 4pm.

ANDRATX

The best wines and international art on Mallorca can be enjoyed together this weekend at the first annual Arte y Vino Fair at CCA Andratx. Around a dozen Mallorcan wineries will be offering tastings of their wines in the cloistered courtyard, and you can also visit the Centre’s various galleries, and enjoy pinchos in the centre’s café. It’s happening on Saturday and Sunday from 11am until 5pm. Entrance is 12 euros, including three tastings and entry to the art exhibitions.

PORT DE SÓLLER

This Saturday, October 11th it’s the third concert in the 10th Festival de Música Clásica Port de Sóller. Performing at 7.30pm will be violinistFrancisco Garcia Fullana, accompanied by Alexander Malter on piano. The venue is the Oratorio de Santa Catalina, Museo del Mar in Port de Sóller. CALA RAJADA

The fishing port of Cala Rajada is the location of the Llampuga Fair this coming weekend, in which the star is the lightning fish, or ‘llampuga’. The fish is caught in Mallorcan waters only at this time of the year, and is an important catch for the port, and ingredient in island cuisine. The fair is from Friday, October 10th until Sunday, 12th.

Germany has come to Santa Ponsa! Oktoberfest is on at the Plaza de la Pinada, next to Santa Ponsa beach until Sunday, October 12th. It’s open from 7pm until midnight until Thursday night, with a later finish on Friday, and then open on Saturday and Sunday from noon until late.

MAGALUF

On Wednesday, October 1st it’s the return of the Amigas Para Siempre - a group of friends who come to Mallorca every year and organize a fun day to raise money for the Allen Graham Charity for disadvantaged and abused children on Mallorca. The day includes live music, a raffle and tombola and starts at 1pm. All the fun happens at The Boat Yard Restaurant and Bar on Magaluf Beach, and they’d love your support.

PORT DE SÓLLER

For the second concert in the 10th Festival de Música Clásica Port de Sóller, a string quartet from the Radio Berlin Symphony Orchestra will accompany the festival’s artistic director and pianist Alexander Malter. The programme will include works by Mozart and Schumann. The concert is this Saturday, October 4th, at 7.30pm, at the Oratorio de Santa Catalina, Museo del Mar in Port de Sóller. MAGALUF

The Rotary Club of Calvia has their annual sponsored walk and charity fun day this Saturday, October 4th. It’s entitled “Walk for those who can’t” and all funds raised will go, as usual, to a variety of local charities. The main sponsor this year is Sol Katmandu Park in Magaluf, the starting point for the walk. Rotary is offering a whole day of fun and activities there for both walkers and supporters, including an arts and crafts market, live music all afternoon (organized by local musician Jon White), and ‘special prices’ for the attractions in the Katmandu Park. The main walk is 10 kilometres and will take you along the coastal promenade to Mood Beach and back to Katmandu. There’s a shorter walk of 2 kilometres, and free refreshments for all walkers. If you’d like to support this great event, be at Katmandu Park this Saturday morning at 9am. To do the walk costs 10 euros for adults and 5 euros for children.

PALMA

This Sunday, September 28th it’s the 6th edition of the "Kilómetros solidarios contra la Fibrosis Quística" – a non-competitive charity race on Palma’s Paseo Maritimo organized by the Fundación Respiralia, staring at 10am, and for a minimum of 5 km. ANDRATX

Sa Taronja has live music tonight (Tuesday, 22nd), with free entry to enjoy Christa Elmer, the blues singer from S’Arraco, who will perform with guitarist Unai Iker. The concert is in Limon y Chelo and starts at 8.30pm. If the weather’s bad it will be indoors.

CAN PICAFORT

The first edition of the Can Picafort Oktoberfest is under way, and continues until Sunday (September 28th). As well as the German beer and food, there’s live music and activities for children. It’s on from 7pm until midnight in the resort, 50 metres from the beach.

BINISSALEM

There’s something on every evening this week for the annual grape harvest celebrations in Binissalem, which continue until Sunday. The big night is this Saturday (27th), with a parade of decorated floats through the town’s streets from 5pm. The same evening it’s the wine fair in Rectory Park, where you can taste wines from the region, once you’ve bought your entrance tickets for just a few euros. The evening ends with live music in the main square from 11pm, with artists including Tomeu Penya.

ALCÚDIA

The final of the five concerts of this year’s Alcúdia Jazz Festival takes place this Saturday (27th), with a performance by the Marco Mezquida Trio, whose concert is entitled ‘My friend Marco’. It’s happening at Alcúdia’s modern auditorium, at 10pm, with tickets priced at 8 euros. Get yours by phoning 971 897 185.

BENDINAT

Hotel Bendinat’s penultimate art exhibition of the season features works by two Palma de Mallorca artists: painter Diego Conesa and sculptor Antoni Portas. The exhibition runs from September 24th to October 14th, with its official exhibition cocktail event this Thursday (25th), which is free to anyone interested in art. It starts at 6.30pm at the Hotel Bendinat.
