It’s cricket weather! And there’s a great charity match coming up on Easter Sunday, to raise funds for the Help for Heroes charity. The match is between the Ex-Servicemen’s XI and the Orca Baleares Yachties XI, with 30 overs a side. There’ll be a raffle with great prizes, bar, refreshments, BBQ, bouncy castle for the kids and entertainment by Izzy Newman. Support Help for Heroes by attending the match at Magaluf Cricket Ground on Sunday, April 20th. Wickets are pitched at 1pm. Free admission.

COSTA D’EN BLANES

On Thursday, April 17th, it’s the next Supper Club event at Mood Beach in Costa d’en Blanes. This friendly monthly social and business networking event includes a supper plate and 2 drinks for 15 euros. PLAYA DE MURO

If you’re a keen cyclist you may enjoy the Fira Monografica de la Bicicleta, which is taking place from today until the 14th in Playa de Muro. Lots of activities going on relating to the world of bicycles and cycling.

SANTA MARGALIDA

The village of Santa Margalida has its Fira all day on Sunday, 13th – a traditional fair with lots of food, handicrafts, and agricultural interest.

ANDRATX

This Saturday night (12th) at Sa Taronja you can enjoy a concert by the ‘Serenta Berlin’ – featuring members and friends of the German Symphony Orchestra of Berlin, who are in their ninth year of collaborating with this not-for-profit cultural centre. The programme includes work by Franck, Moszkowski and Shostakovich.

In just a few weeks – on Saturday, May 3rd it’s the Calvia Lions’ event ‘A Night at the Opera’, taking place at Mood Beach, Costa d’en Blanes. It’s a fundraiser for ‘Angels without Wings’ supporting Son Espases Palliative Care Unit. The evening is a humorous review starring George Pena, followed by a party with Claudia Lucia, and includes a three-course dinner including wine. This month is the last of the Son Vida Café cultural evenings, this time featuring a concert by Emanuel Bleuse on ‘cello and Miriam Picker on piano. The Anglican Church in Palm has their Grand Quiz Night this Friday, taking place at the church, and with prizes, food and fun! INCA

The dog rescue charity Dogs For U has their spring fair this Saturday, March 29th. There’ll be stalls, including quality bric-a-brac, greetings cards and wrapping paper, design-a-t-shirt, and Dogs For U merchandise, as well as homemade cakes and refreshments. And of course you get to meet the lovely dogs being cared for at the centre. Dogs For U’s spring fair is open from 11am until 2pm at their premises on the outskirts of Inca, on the old Alcudia road (exit 27 of the Inca motorway). All proceeds go to the care of the dogs.

COSTA D’EN BLANES

Put some glamour into your life with the Casino Royale James Bond 007 Casino Night, taking place at Mood Beach this Saturday, March 29th from 8pm. Entrance is 15 euros per person, including a glass of cava and canapés, casino, live entertainment and cabaret. Dress code is glitz and glamour, so go for it big time and make it a night to remember. All proceeds from the Casino Royale night go to island cancer charities.

PALMA

A couple of months ago I mentioned the Toastmasters Youth Leadership Program Mallorca Wordsmiths, which was due to run for eight weeks and was open to youngsters aged 12 to 17. They have their last session tonight and on Friday, there’s a special celebration for the 15 participants, family and friends and anyone who’s interested in youth development and would like to attend. It’s taking place at the Hotel Horizonte in Palma Bonanova on Friday evening at 19.30hrs and will include a food and drink banquet for 25 euros. ANDRATX

Sa Taronja – the not-for-profit cultural centre in Andratx – has a great day for kids and young people this Sunday, March 30th. It’s Circus Day for children! It starts at 11am with a flea market of kids’ gear and other secondhand items organized by the local Parents’ Association. At 12 noon Angus the Clown (from the Bover circus) is performing (admission is 3 euros for kids, 5 euros for adults). In the afternoon there’s a ping pong tournament, children’s treasure hunt, exhibition of work by young artists, and workshops in circus arts and painting for children aged 4 to 12.

This weekend Logan Murray returns to Mallorca to present his popular weekend stand-up comedy workshop. It’s at Onda Vital, starting Friday 21st March at 4pm and ending on Sunday 23rd – with a live evening stand-up performance at Sa Botiga de Buffons in Palma. If you missed the recent production of Macbeth, in English, at Palma Auditorium, it’s back for a second run, from this Thursday, March 20th until Sunday, 23rd inclusive. Curtain up is at 7pm, tickets available from the box office.

Jokers Bar in Magaluf has a grand opening this Sunday, 23rd, after a complete refurbishment of their facilities. To celebrate they are hosting the Lions Club Calvia Charity Extravaganza from 2pm until 8pm that day, with live entertainment, prize-winning dancers, children’s entertainment, raffle and games – all hosted by Nicky Stixx. In addition, 20 per cent of the bar takings will also be donated to two children’s charities on the island: the children’s home Natzaret and Indig, which supports children who have been placed into care. Sa Taronja – the not-for-profit cultural centre – has its popular annual calçotada this Sunday, March 23rd and weather permitting, it’ll be alfresco, under the orange trees. If it rains, it’ll be indoors. The event includes grilled calçots with Romescu sauce, artichokes roasted on the fire, sausages from the grill with white beans and roastlamb with salad and potatoes, oranges for dessert and water, wine and bread. Age Concern Mallorca has organised a spring excursion for this Friday, 21st to Muro, for a visit to an organic snail farm and ethnological museum. The trip includes a buffet lunch with wine, and a snack at the farm (not snails), and transport. SANTA PONSA

St Patrick’s Day is on Monday and Santa Ponsa will again be celebrating with its St Patrick’s Festival taking place this Saturday, Sunday and Monday. There’ll be a street parade, children’s entertainment, artisan market, live music and, of course, Guinness. It happens in the resort from 11am until 10pm each day.
